What's the difference between Layout Lounge and a service like Canva?

In a service like Canva, you’re given pre-designed templates to choose from that have often been designed without a specific framework or structure in mind. While there are great uses for Canva and many people use it well, it can be time consuming for anyone who is not a designer or who may not be confident in making their own design decisions. Though these services offer pre-designed templates to use, the reality is that you will still be doing a DIY design project.

What's the difference between Layout Lounge and a service like Creative Market or Envato Elements?

In services like Creative Market or Envnto, you’re given pre-designed templates to choose from. After you purchase, you then download the source files of the design and make updates to that template yourself. 

While there are great uses for these services and many people try to make this work, it can be time consuming for anyone who is not a designer or who may not be confident in making their own design decisions. How do revisions and feedback work? Can I send revisions next year for a project we've already copleted?

Each project comes with one detailed round of feedback and updates. I call this the Nitty Gritty round. You’ll hunt for everything from missing comma’s to requesting all new photos. You and your client should catch 98% of updates during this round.

Next you’ll have one lightning round for any remaining updates that require 15 minutes or less. 

Once the final PDF is delivered after these two rounds of updates the project is complete. Updates are no longer available inside your purchased project.

In the case that a project requires updates in the future, there is a $59 charge minimum per request. All requests will be evaluated at the time of request to make a give a more solid price based on the scope of the updates.

Starting a Project

Do I select my layout or write copy first?

Having written content finished prior to entering the design phase allows for clarity and efficiency while moving toward a final product.

When your written content is ready to go, you’ll purchase your layout and submit your files to kick off your project.

What files do you need to start a project?

To kick off a project you’ll submit 3 types of files:

  1. Written Content – This is the copy you’ve already written.
  2. Brand Assets – This should include any pieces of identity for the company whose PDF is being created. (Logo, brand style guide, icons, past marketing collateral, etc)
  3. Photography – Any photography that you’d like included in the final design, especially if there is a required cover image. (Don’t have your own photography, no problem. Check out a project extension.

How do I send in my project files?

To begin a project, you’ll fill out this form. 

In the project kickoff form you’ll submit written content, photography, and brand assets, as well as other needed information.

Is there a monthly project requirement?

Nope.

In order to do any project you’ll need to purchase a project punch card, BUT there is no time limit on when you use the projects on your punch card. 

For example: If you have 3 projects on your punch card, you can use all three in a single month or wait for five months until you have a project come up. No monthly minimum or maximum number of projects.

What is my monthly cost?

Members pay a single monthly membership fee of $39. 

What does the membership fee get me?

A small membership fee gives you:

1. Access to the Layout Lounge project punch cards! This is an excellent way to pay even less for your layout design. Buy more projects on a single punch card and save more. Punch cards come in three options: 3, 5, or 8 projects.

2. Access to the Layout Lounge shop! This is the shop of pre-designed layouts. When you’re ready to use a project from your punch card, you’ll select a layout from the shop.

Can I access the layout shop without a membership?

Yes. The Layout Lounge layout shop is available to non-members beginning Februrary 2021.

Will my punch card expire if I don't have a project for a while?

No. Once a punch card is purchased your projects will live on that punch card until you use them, as long as you remain a member of the Layout Lounge.

How does a punch card work?

When you purchase a punch card, you load your membership with the number of projects on the punch card you’ve selected. Each time you use a project with the Layout Lounge a project is punched. 

For Example: When you purchase a 5 project punch card, you now have 5 projects on your membership. Once you use one project, you now have 4 projects left.

Once you’ve used all of the 5 projects on your punch card, you can reload projects by purchasing any of of the punch card options.

Do I have to purchase a punch card? When?

Yes & No.

As a Layout Lounge member, you’ll have access to the punch cards with your monthly membership fee. However, you can wait to purchase your punch card until you have a project to work on.

Individual Projects can now be purchased the same way a non-member would purchase a project, by adding it to your cart.

How do i become a Founding Member?

Sign up as a member before June 1, 2020 to lock-in your Founding Member membership rates and bonuses.

What price do Founding Members locked in?

Founding Members lock-in $32/month for life. After Founding Membership closes on June 1, 2020 the monthly rate increases to $45/month.

Founding Members lock-in punch card rates for life.

  •  1 Layout/$350
  • 3 Layout Punch Card/$900 ($300/layout)
  • 5 Layout Punch Card/$1250 ($250/layout)
  • 8 Layout Punch Card/$1600 ($200/layout)
How far back can I make project updates?

Founding Members can submit updates to ALL past projects for the lifetime of their membership.

To submit project updates, you’ll fill out this project form. In the project field, state your project name and add “Update” to the end.

If I cancel, can I come back with the same Founding Member bonuses?

Founding Member bonuses apply to your membership for the lifetime of your membership.

When a Founding Member cancels their membership and wants to become a member again in the future, that member will come back at the rates available at the new time of sign up.

What is the Express Pass?

An express pass gives a Founding Member the ability to jump the line.

Standard turnaround for the Layout Lounge is one week. With a Founding Member express pass, you’ll be able to submit a project with an urgent deadline and cut your turn around time in half. 

 

How many Express Pass projects can I submit?

Founding Members hold 2 express pass projects per month.
